How to Buy Gold Safely

Buying gold is safe when you follow a few simple rules. Every horror story you have heard broke at least one of them.

Check the dealer, not just the price

A legitimate dealer is easy to verify: a registered UK company you can look up, a real address you could visit, a phone number a human answers, and independent reviews collected by a third party such as Feefo. Welcome their ID and anti money laundering checks; they exist to keep criminal money out of the market and they mark out the professionals.

Buy recognised coins

Stick to world-standard bullion coins, above all UK legal tender Britannias and Sovereigns. They are struck by The Royal Mint, carry modern security features, and every dealer on earth will recognise and buy them. Exotic or 'collectable' pieces sold on the phone at rich premiums are where new buyers get hurt.

Understand the price

Gold trades at a live spot price; you buy at a small premium above it. A trustworthy dealer shows live pricing and explains the premium plainly. If a price is far below the market, something is wrong with the goods; far above, something is wrong with the dealer.

Insist on insured delivery

Your gold should travel fully insured and tracked, in discreet packaging, or be collected in person by appointment. Never accept arrangements where the risk in transit sits with you.

Take your time

Any pressure to act today is a signal to walk away. Real dealers educate first and are happy for you to read the guide, think, and come back.
