Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most from first-time and experienced gold buyers.

Buying

How do I know your gold is genuine?

Every coin comes through trusted UK partners including The Royal Mint, supplied securely encapsulated. Modern Britannias carry four advanced security features, and you are welcome to have any coin independently verified.

Do you sell NGC and PCGS graded coins?

Yes. Selected coins are professionally graded by NGC or PCGS, independently certifying authenticity and condition in a sealed capsule. See Graded Coins Explained.

Why not just buy from The Royal Mint directly?

You can, and it is the same metal. Clients choose us for keener premiums, a personal specialist rather than a call centre, our buyback service when you sell, and appointments in London. Compare prices yourself, we encourage it.

Can you help me choose, and do I get my own account manager?

Yes. You deal with one named specialist from first call to delivery and beyond, as our Feefo reviews show. Call 0208 064 0076.

Do you build bespoke packages?

Yes. Tell us your budget and goals and we hand-pick the mix, or use the package builder on our homepage. We also source graded, low-mintage and proof coins on request.

Can I buy foreign coins like Krugerrands and stay CGT free?

No. Only UK legal tender coins such as Britannias and Sovereigns are Capital Gains Tax free, which is why we specialise in them. See Is gold CGT free?

Why coins and not gold bars?

Bars lose the CGT exemption and sell all-or-nothing. Coins are tax free, divisible and recognised everywhere. Full comparison: Coins vs bars.

Paying

What payment options do you accept?

Bank transfer, payment over the phone, or cash in person by appointment. We do not take cards online. Coins are reserved for 48 hours while your transfer arrives.

Can I pay cash, and is there a limit?

Yes, in person at our London office by appointment. UK anti money laundering rules limit large cash payments, so call us first to confirm the current cash limit; larger amounts are best by bank transfer.

Do you accept Bitcoin or crypto?

Not currently, though we may in the future. For now: bank transfer, phone or cash.

What paperwork do I receive?

A full invoice recording exactly what you bought and the price paid, plus your order confirmation. Keep them with your records; they are your proof of ownership and useful for insurance and your accountant.

Visiting & Events

Can I meet you in person? Do you have a showroom?

Yes. We meet clients by private appointment at The Harley Building, 77 New Cavendish Street, London W1W 6XB, rather than a walk-in showroom, so you get our full attention. Call to arrange a time.

Do you run events?

Yes. We exhibit every year at the ExCeL Centre in London. Follow our Market News page or ask your specialist for the next date.

Are your phone lines recorded?

Calls may be recorded for security, training and compliance, which protects both sides of every conversation.

Delivery, Storage & Travel

How is my order delivered, and what happens after I order?

You get our bank details instantly with your order number as reference. Once payment arrives we complete our checks and dispatch by fully insured, tracked Royal Mail Special Delivery in discreet packaging, usually within 3 to 5 working days, or you collect by appointment.

Do you sell safes? Which should I buy?

We do not sell safes, so our advice is unbiased: an insurance-rated safe, properly bolted and discreetly placed, suits most holdings. Your insurer can confirm the rating you need. See How to store gold.

Can I travel abroad with my coins?

Owning them is not the issue; borders are. Many countries require declarations above certain values, and travel insurance rarely covers bullion. If you must travel with coins, check both countries' rules first and tell your insurer.

Tax & Privacy

Is gold really CGT free and VAT free?

UK legal tender coins are Capital Gains Tax free for UK residents, and investment gold is VAT free. Full details: CGT and VAT.

Do you report my purchases to HMRC?

We do not routinely report purchases. Like every UK bullion dealer we keep records and comply with anti money laundering law, sharing information only where legally required. And since gains on UK coins are CGT exempt, there is normally nothing for you to report either.

Why do you carry out ID and AML checks?

They are required of every legitimate UK dealer, keep criminal money out of the market and protect you. Quick and confidential.

I do not have a will. Can I still buy coins?

Of course. Your coins simply form part of your estate like any possession. We would gently encourage anyone building wealth to make a will; see Gold and inheritance.

Can I add someone as a beneficiary?

Gold is physical property, so beneficiaries are set through your will or a trust rather than through us. Many clients buy coins intended for children and grandchildren; see Gold and trusts.

Selling & Buyback

How does selling back to you work, and how long does it take?

Call for a same-day quote at live market pricing on anything we supplied. Bring the coins in or send them fully insured; once verified, payment goes to your bank, usually the same day we receive them. See How to sell gold.

When is the best time to buy or sell?

Honestly: nobody times the gold market reliably, including us. Buying steadily over time smooths the price, and selling is best driven by your own goals rather than headlines. Gold rewards time in the market; see What happens if gold falls?

Will my coins increase in value?

We cannot promise that, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Gold has held value over the long term but its price falls as well as rises. See what past decades looked like with the calculator on our Gold Guide page.

How much has gold increased over 20 years?

Substantially, but see it for yourself: the calculator on our Gold Guide page shows what any amount invested 5, 10 or 20 years ago would be worth at today's live price. Past performance is not a guide to the future.

Referrals, Credit & Reviews

Can I earn money on referrals?

Yes. Our Refer & Earn scheme rewards you when someone you introduce becomes a client.

I was recommended by someone. Do I get any benefits?

Mention their name when you order so they are credited, and ask your specialist what is available for referred clients at the time.

Can I turn store credit into cash?

Credit is designed to be used against purchases rather than withdrawn as cash. Speak to your specialist about your balance and options.

Why do you use Feefo for reviews?

Because Feefo only invites verified customers to review, so every rating comes from a real transaction. Read ours at source: Feefo.

This page is general information, not financial or tax advice. The value of gold can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future performance.
